News: Refurbished Swimming Facility re-opened at Hoyland Leisure Centre
News Story

Local swimmers can now benefit from a newly refurbished pool hall and changing rooms at Hoyland Leisure Centre in Barnsley, following an investment of over £200,000 from BPL, in association with Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council (BMBC) and the Free Swimming Capital Investment Fund.

The wet-side changing rooms now feature new shower and WC facilities and a family changing area, in response to demand from customers.  Extensive repairs have also been carried out to the roof and ceiling, as well as new lighting installed and the whole pool area re-decorated.

Jon McCool, BPL facility manager at Hoyland Leisure Centre, said: “The investment here means Hoyland Leisure Centre has some of the best swimming facilities in the area.  We are really excited about what this will mean for the local community and look forward to even more people being able to benefit.”

Customer Jacqueline Mcgeever from Tankersley said: “I am really impressed with the swimming pool and changing rooms.  It will be much better for families and for other swimmers too. It has made a huge difference and I’ll definitely to using the leisure centre regularly.”

Hoyland Leisure Centre is just one of five major refurbishments that have been completed at BPL venues over the coming months. Other venues that have benefited include the Metrodome Leisure Complex that received a new water slide, Dorothy Hyman Sports Centre, Royston Leisure Centre, that now boasts a refurbished fitness suite and Wombwell Swimming pool and Dearneside Leisure Centre, which have just opened their first ever fitness suites!

Hoyland Leisure Centre will be hosting a number of fun swims throughout the summer holidays, including sea scooters and inflatables, with fun for all the family.
