South Yorkshire Sport: NGB Engagement

The National Engagement Process

The Sport England Strategy (02-11) firmed placed National Governing Bodies (NGB`s) at the heart of sport development to grow, sustain and excel the 46 chosen sports against agree targets as detailed in each NGB Whole Sport Plan. Following the NGB`s allocation of funding, Sport England has created a process to ensure the NGB`s are engaged appropriately in line with each NGB`s priorities, capacity and structure starting nationally and then cascaded to each CSP. The Engagement Process to agree the national approach and communication with CSP`s is as follows.

NGB`s will meet with sport England at national level to identify their preferred methods of engagement and communication with CSP`s. These agreements made at national level form a picture of which NGB`s are ready to engage at county level and how they would like to be approached.

The services that are available to NGB`s are provided in two ways. The first is through the CSP Core specification funded by sport England and available to all NGB`s. The second is through requests by individual NGB`s for services which are outside the core specification. Through county level negotiations with NGB`s, a delivery plan will be established detailing the services to be provided as part of the CSP/NGB relationship.

2. The South Yorkshire Engagement Process

The national engagement process clearly identifies how and when NGB`s want to be engaged at county level. The South Yorkshire process of engagement will be completed as a phased approach based on the following key factors:
1. Readiness to engage at county level following national signoff.
2. Intention to work within South Yorkshire in Year 1.
3. Level of delivery within South Yorkshire.

South Yorkshire Sport will produce a South Yorkshire summary of NBG engagement for the county detailing NGB interventions in South Yorkshire and the Delivery Plan in place to monitor its progress. This engagement summary will be updated on a monthly basis and circulated to CSN leads for information.
